Georgia on my mind #artforsale #modernart #collage
Black spot on Bombay Road, Mixed Media, 2013
Just before Christmas, Saatchi Art let me know I had sold one my my landscapes to a collector just outside Atlanta, Georgia. It was quite a euphoric moment for me as this work was one of my favourites from my Dark Side of the Road series that was shown during Art Month at Gaffa Gallery in Sydney.
I love that it’s gone to a new home, I particularly love that it has gone to the south of the USA and that somehow the landscape of our little area around Braidwood resonated with someone in Georgia.
I imagine looking out from the picture and seeing someone’s home; where is it hanging? Who has been looking at it? What view does the artwork have? It’s kind of self-obsessing, but it’s like when a child leaves home, you wonder where they are, what they’re doing and I like that the new owner is thinking the same thoughts. There’s a lovely idea in the picture being an obscure two-way mirror. You can’t see through it, but it’s a permanent connection, a portal to a world that you’ll never visit but are forever connected with.
